How We Turned a Large Open-Plan Apartment into Multiple Functional Spaces Without Building Additional Walls
The Story Behind the Design
This Vauxhall apartment already benefited from generous floor space and excellent natural light, but its open-plan layout created a different challenge. Without clear zoning, the living and dining areas lacked identity, making the home feel like one large room rather than a collection of purposeful spaces. The brief was to introduce warmth, functionality and understated luxury while preserving the openness that made the property so appealing.

Simply putting up plasterboard partition walls would have strangled the natural light pouring in from the floor-to-ceiling windows, while leaving the space empty would maintain a cold, gallery-like echo. Cold, Echoing Architecture
We carefully balanced the scale of the room by specifying warm timber finishes, deeply padded performance upholstery, multi-layered ceiling and joinery lighting, and heavily textured wool fabrics to absorb sound waves and soften the atmosphere.
Visual Dead Ends
We created subtle, continuous sightlines. By aligning the height of our bespoke dining display with the media joinery, we created a harmonious, horizontal datum line that effortlessly guides the eye through the property.
